In our 10th year of bringing environmentally friendly bedding to the animal world, Green Horse Brands is thrilled to “come full circle” on the healthy environment front. We’ve accomplished this by adding representation of the revolutionary Earth Flow composting system.
After its long life in horse stalls and other animal enclosures, our Airlite Premium Cardboard Bedding has always made wonderful compost material. The layered structure of Airlite cardboard pieces is ideal for the aeration phase of composting. Airlite’s clean origins as “pre-consumer’ cardboard means it does not add inks, dyes, pesticides, chemicals, plastics or other contaminants to the soil it supports as compost.
However, composting is a time- and labor-intensive process.
Mixing, turning and monitoring the compost pile to ensure appropriate moisture, temperature and aeration is required to turn waste material into a healthy soil additive. Even for the most environmentally conscientious animal owners, that time and labor can be barriers to composting.
That is, until Earth Flow technology came around. Green Horse Brands is thrilled to offer this easy, cost-effective composting method. With sizes and scalability for any size facility, the Earth Flow systems automate the labor- and time-intensive aspects of converting waste into wonderfully useful material.
Mixing, moisture addition, material movement, odor control and aeration are all programmed functions customized for each facility’s needs. The Earth Flows’ key component is a rotating augur that is housed in either a converted shipping container – the Intermodal Earth Flow System – or within a covered Site Built structure.
A wide range of sizes and processing capacities make Earth Flow suitable for facilities of almost any size and waste processing need. Intermodal units, for example, come in 20′ and 40′ lengths, with outputs capacities of up to 300 and 600 tons a year, respectively.

The Intermodal and Site Built Earth Flow systems enable horse and property owners to transform manure and bedding waste into carbon-capturing, soil-enhancing compost. Earth Flow systems produce compost much faster than windrow and other methods – in some cases, ready-to-cure compost is produced in just two weeks. The result is ideal for use throughout a farm, agricultural or garden property and/or to sell to farmers and gardeners.
The Earth Flow can rapidly transform manure, used bedding and/or food scraps into a profit center. This profit potential is in addition to significantly reducing or eliminating the significant expense of dumpsters and waste removal fees.
The Earth Flow system came to our attention through a loyal Airlite Cardboard Bedding user, Grace Kamphefner. Grace recently completed her 40-horse public boarding and training facility, Flying Change Farms, in the Sacramento area. Her plans for the facility revolved around her dedication to horse health and sustainable practices. Nearby residential developments intensified odor and fly control priorities.

The Earth Flow System ticked all Grace’s boxes. She’s especially pleased with how the system works with Airlite Premium Cardboard Bedding. However, Earth Flow works with any animal bedding – wood chips, wood shavings, straw, etc. The cleanliness and qualities of what goes into the Earth Flow dictate the cleanliness and qualities of what comes out of it, so Airlite bedding is ideal.
